Ursa Major helps clients align business processes to achieve mission objectives, supported by appropriate technology, and measurable by appropriate performance measures. The Enterprise Architecture (EA) provides a shared view of the current and future state, and aids in prioritizing investments that result in improved mission outcomes.

We have supported EA for federal agencies using federal standards, and for commercial and nonprofit organizations including spanning organizational boundaries.

Providing the broad perspective of EA, we conducted an analysis of Management Touchpoints for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Enterprise Business Transformation Office to aid in the alignment of policy with mission outcomes.

Ursa Major supports processes for defining, collecting, and analyzing many different types of data to guide decisions toward improvement of policies and processes. Examples include:

  • Design and implementation of surveys to collect stakeholder input from stakeholders, including residents, first responders, City employees, and service providers with regard to behavioral health
  • Design and facilitation of workshops to standardize data across nonprofit agencies and provide industry-wide insights
  • Identification and analysis of Management Touchpoints represented by overlapping and cascading policies in effect at a federal agency
  • Analysis of website and social media traffic for website and search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Data mining for suspicious financial transactions for law enforcement
  • Analysis of data collected by legacy information systems for data standardization and optimization
  • Identifying and implementing decision support systems to improve business intelligence
  • Analysis of existing processes and data flows to identify ways to improve cycle time
  • Analysis of employment and earnings data for people with disabilities to support policy alternatives and research agendas.

The resulting insights support business process improvement, data standardization, improved automation, and organizational change, and are often the foundation for delivering improved organizational performance.

We are masters of collaboration, working with groups, and bringing people to consensus.

  • We have facilitated and supported ongoing working groups of people in management and operational roles across the country, using in person meetings and via conferencing, supported by online document sharing, website action registers, e-mail discussion lists, and other mechanisms.
  • We have assembled panels of industy experts to identify best practices, develop positions, and formulate approaches, including development of a major transformational policy proposal for a National Employment Investment Policy. We shared documents online.
  • We have assembled groups of facilitators with domain specialties such as acquisition / procurement and healthcare, for diverse groups of participants.
  • We have planned and facilitated a Beneficiary Summit representing diversity of age, race, gender, and disability from every state and territory, and brought them to consensus on their recommendations to Congress, the Social Security Administration. We used online action planning tools as well as conferencing.
  • We planned the first JoomlaDay in the Washington, DC area, working with a group of Joomla! experts who for the most part had not planned such a conference before. We used collaboration tools such as Google Docs and Project Fork to share planning documents and milestones in real time and virtual space. We used Google Forms to virtually instantaneously develop and share a survey of participants, collecting their responses into a Google Docs spreadsheet we shared.
